About

Mission

Cuts and Paste Gallery aims to increase the knowledge of and appreciation for collage and assemblage through the exhibition of works, hosting of workshops and learning events, and the collection of resources to encourage further collage creation. It is primarily concerned with increasing the visibility of collage and assemblage within the Canadian art community and working exclusively with Canadian artists from it's location in K'jipuktuk/Halifax, NS.

Land Acknowledgement

Cuts and Paste Gallery would like to acknowledge the traditional, ancestral, unceded territory of the Mi’kma’ki, on which we are operating today. The municipality acknowledges the Peace & Friendship Treaties signed in this Territory and recognizes that we are all Treaty People.

It’s important to acknowledge the land and the Indigenous people who lived upon it when it became colonized. Cuts and Paste supports the study of Mi'kma'ki, particularly their arts and crafts practises, and offers you the following links for further study.

Rhonda Barrett is a professional artist and supporter of artists, particularly those who work with collage or assemblage. She has been involved in the arts community since 2008 as a dancer, poet, and visual artist in both Newfoundland and Nova Scotia.  She has volunteered with Canadian Artists’ Representation/Le Front des artistes canadiens (CARFAC) and was part of Art 1274 Hollis, a local art cooperative in Halifax, NS. In 2020, Barrett started the Canadian Collage Collective (CCC) to document and find artists all across the country working in collage and assemblage. It can be found at www.canadiancollagecollective.ca.

Her background is in architectural technology, interior design and project management. She has been creating collage and assemblage professionally since 2014 and has been facilitating workshops since 2016. Most recently, Barret was a visiting artist with the Labrador Creative Arts Festival in Happy Valley - Goose Bay, NL. If you are interested in booking Rhonda to teach a workshop, please see the Workshop Catalogue.

She hopes that Cuts and Paste Gallery can support the sharing of Canadian collage and assemblage art and artists with folks all over Canada.
